Wartime in PNG

The following images have been donated to the PNGAA Collection from someone who was in the AITAPE area.

Unfortunately we do not have any captions on any of the photos . . .  nor do we know any of the context related to these events like who, when, where, etc.

If any PNGAA members are aware of such details, they are able to provide some information in the comment area at the bottom.

Quite amusing how quickly these armed and gun-trained Papua New Guineans in the various military units were disarmed and demobilised at the end of the war—Australia wanted to get back as quickly as possible to pre-1940 days !! With other colonies (British, Dutch French and so on ) starting to lay the groundwork for Independence, the thought of gun-trained PNG men was just too much.
