Papua New Guinea Remembers—Anzac Day 2021
Australian achievements in Papua New Guinea during WW II were critical to victory in the Pacific War against the Japanese. Australians fought alongside men of the Papuan Infantry Battalion and the Pacific Islands Regiment, and were also assisted by many Papuan and New Guinean civilians who carried supplies, evacuated the sick and wounded, and built bases, airfields and other infrastructure.
These successes, and also the inevitable human price, are commemorated by official memorials and ceremonies across the country.
On Anzac Day honour the fallen, cheer the survivors,
care for the wounded and reach out to a friend—Lest We Forget
